“How To” Rent a Boat in Lake Geneva
It’s easier than you think—and “all the feels” are guaranteed. 🛥️💦😎
Renting a boat in Lake Geneva should be easy. And it mostly is—if you know where to go, what to bring, and how not to look like a total amateur at the dock. Let’s get you lake-ready.
✅ What You Absolutely Need to Rent a Boat:
- 🧍 Must be 21 years old
- 🪪 Valid U.S. driver’s license
- 💳 Credit card for deposit
- 🛟 Previous boating experience
- 📅 If born after 1/1/1989, you need a Wisconsin Boater’s License

🤷♀️ No Experience? No Problem.
Ask for a Captain with your reservation who’ll:
- 🚤 Show you how the boat works (hint: no brakes!)
- 📏 Teach you the rules of the lake
- 🗺️ Point out the best places to Insta, chill, and cruise
Once you’re feeling confident, kick the kid off the boat 😆, tip well 💵, and boom—you’re ready to captain your own ride next time.
📍 Where to Rent a Boat
There are only two spots in Lake Geneva renting powerboats:
- Elmer’s Boat Rentals (📍Riviera)
- Marina Bay Boat Rentals (📍Next to the public boat launch)
They flip the fleet around 10AM and 2PM daily ⏰—so yes, the dock looks wild, but both crews are seasoned pros. Just:
👉 Send ONE person to check in
🧴 Leave the rest of your crew off to the side applying sunscreen and taking selfies
📌 All boats must be back by dusk—no exceptions!

🎒 What to Bring
- 🪪 Driver’s license
- 💳 Credit card
- 🧊 Cooler (no glass!)
- 🔊 Bluetooth speaker if you want to DJ your day
- ☀️ Sunscreen—or regrets
They’ll give you a quick safety rundown and lake map. Pay attention. The water’s amazing—but it has rules.
🚫 Don’t Be That Boat
- ⚠️ Respect the no-wake zones
- 🔇 Don’t blast music near paddle boarders at 10AM
- 🚓 DUI laws apply on the lake—yes, really
Be cool, stay safe, and remember: you’re sharing the lake with swimmers, families, and a lot of first-timers.

🌊 Tubes & SUP’s
Yes, you can rent tubes! 🎯
But if you’ve got kids in tow, be extra cautious—there are no traffic lanes on Geneva Lake. Boats come from every direction, so keep those heads on a swivel.
